I’m Back! (Sort Of)

Hello everyone!

I’ve got an update for you all.

Last time I posted, I was feeling pretty disillusioned with the whole nutrition/diet/exercise thing. I took some time to learn a lot about myself, and realize that this journey never really ends. There will always be ups and downs, and sometimes I’ll take better care of myself than others. A big challenge is keeping both my mind and my body happy and finding balance there.

I’ve been hoping to move out of my current living situation for some time, and my search was growing desperate. I knew I needed to move closer to work if I wanted to keep my job (and my sanity), but the housing search was to little avail. Additionally, I had another obstacle in the way of moving out…

…For the past five weeks, I’ve been working at an overnight summer camp for the arts. It was an amazing experience that I look forward to every summer, but extremely challenging with almost no time off. For those five weeks, I did not cook for myself and I ate whatever they served (there was a great salad bar available). But I began to remember how great I felt on a gluten- and dairy-free diet.

And then, out of nowhere, a housing opportunity appeared. Allow me to tell you about it:

  1. It’s in the city.
  2. Rent is relatively low.
  3. It’s with a friend/colleague of mine, and two others who I’ve just met.
  4. It is 100% gluten- and dairy-free.
  5. There is a backyard with a fire pit, and a side yard with a flourishing garden.
  6. The two current residents are studying to be herbalists.
  7. There is a simmering pot of bone broth on the stove at all times.
  8. Range of interests among roommates: ceramics, poetry, nannying, natural childbirth (doula), fermentation, CSA, etc.
  9. One of the roommates runs a small fermented foods business.
  10. They order seaweed online.
  11. We’ll have a vegetable CSA and a poultry CSA.
  12. They eat mostly Paleo and Whole30!
  13. They have a cat.
  14. And two rats.

Holy cow. I’m almost certain that in a supportive environment like this, I will be much more likely to succeed with my healthy lifestyle. Additionally, I’m sure there will be many interesting things to blog about, from canning for the winter, to new recipes and so on.

I’m looking forward to continuing to share my experiences with you all! Thanks for your continued support!
